Description: A multi-million pound industrial buildings site, including a distribution centre, livestock market, shop and restaurant, is being proposed in Norwich.

The Eastern Daily Press reports that the so-called "Norfolk food hub" would supply local and regional markets, supermarkets and major urban areas with Norfolk branded products.

Developer Ian Alston believes the initiative, which was still in its early stages, would provide a major boost to the local economy.

"Potentially I think there's a realistic prospect that in ten to 20 years it could provide 1,500 jobs," Mr Alston told the newspaper.

"If we get permission we will find the funding. I'm hoping that later this year we will be in a position to look at the next stage."

A previous feasibility study into the food hub concept states that the significance of large scale food businesses has "severally limited" the opportunities for small and medium scale enterprises to enter markets and achieve sufficient profits.
