Log cabins to boost village economy
Description: A series of log cabins are to be built and used as holiday homes in the Suffolk countryside near Halesworth, under plans to enhance the local economy.
The Suffolk Coastal District Council has given the go-ahead for construction of the 12 cabins, a shop and toilet facilities in Wenhaston, reports the Beccles and Bungay Journal.
The log cabins will range from one to three-bedroom units, and there will also be additional provision for 15 touring caravans.
Chairman of Wenhaston Parish Council Bernard Orme welcomed the decision, stating it was a positive development for the region.
"We very much hope it will bring jobs to the area and encourage people to visit. We only have one pub in the village - which we very nearly lost at the beginning of last year - but now seems to be doing very well," he told the Journal.
"Hopefully it will bring a little more economic activity."
The BBC recently reported on an eco-village initiative in Pembrokeshire, which included the construction of a log-cabin style "community-hub" building, made from locally sourced tree trunks.
